Prompt engineering

The practice of designing and testing prompts so a model reliably produces the output you need.

Prompt engineering is less about magic phrases and more about clear communication: giving context, stating the goal, showing examples, specifying the format and breaking big tasks into steps. For anything that will run many times, it also means testing prompts against a set of real cases and measuring the results.

Our prompting techniques tutorial covers the methods that work best.

Example: Before: “Write a post about our product”. After: “Write a 150-word LinkedIn post introducing our invoicing app to freelancers; friendly tone, mention that the first month is free and end with a question”.

In practice

  • Write as if explaining to a smart person who knows nothing about the project.
  • Change one thing at a time and compare the results.
  • Save the prompts that work so you can reuse them.
